Social Listening and Monitoring with Zoho Social's Monitor Dashboard
Publishing content is only useful if you’re also paying attention to what happens after it goes live — and to what people say about your brand even when you haven’t posted anything at all. That’s the job of Zoho Social’s Monitor dashboard, covered in this fourth post of the series.
What “Monitoring” Means in Zoho Social
Rather than one generic notifications feed, Zoho Social’s Monitor dashboard is built from individual columns — each one a live stream tracking a specific thing you care about. You might set up columns for:
- Brand mentions and @-tags across Facebook, X, LinkedIn, and Threads
- Specific keywords or hashtags relevant to your industry
- Facebook Page reviews and Google Business Profile reviews
- Competitor activity (tracking a competitor’s account or a hashtag they own)
- Instagram hashtag search and tagged posts
- X keyword search, user search, and curated lists
Free and Standard plans include a handful of columns; Professional and Premium plans scale up to 15 columns, giving agencies and larger teams room to track many signals at once.
The Unified Inbox
Separate from the Monitor columns, Zoho Social’s Inbox (available on Premium and above) consolidates direct messages, comments, and mentions from every connected channel into one place — including X, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn Company Page messages. Instead of checking five apps for five sets of DMs, you work from a single queue. The Inbox supports filters, custom views, saved replies, and assignment rules, so a larger team can divide incoming conversations by topic or channel rather than everyone watching everything.
Responding in Real Time
Zoho Social’s Live Stream tab shows engagement as it happens — likes, comments, shares — with enough context on the person interacting (their profile, recent activity) that you can respond meaningfully instead of with a generic reply. For teams using Zia, Zoho’s AI assistant, there’s also an option to draft or rephrase a reply directly in the Inbox rather than starting from a blank box.
Why This Matters Beyond “Staying On Top of Things”
Monitoring isn’t just about reputation management. Every mention, like, or comment is a potential lead — someone showing interest in your brand without you having to run an ad. Zoho Social treats these interactions as “Connections,” and if you’re integrated with Zoho CRM, you can convert a Connection into a lead or contact directly from the Monitor or Inbox view. We cover that workflow in detail in post seven.
Setting Up Your First Columns
A practical starting point for most businesses:
- A column tracking @-mentions across your primary channels
- A column tracking your brand name as a keyword (to catch mentions that don’t use @-tags)
- A column for your top one or two competitors
- A column for a branded hashtag if you run one
From there, add columns as you identify gaps — a product name, a campaign hashtag, or an industry term you want to track for content ideas.
